I show how i tightened my loose door handle that is made by kwikset.

Insert the tip of the wrench into the screw and rotate the tool counter clockwise until the faceplate is free to slide off. If that is the case use a screwdriver instead of an allen wrench. Remove the screw and slip the lever handle off the rod. Determine whether you will need an allen wrench or a screwdriver based on the style of set screw which you will find on the bottom of the door lever.

The detent is a spring activated pin concealed or small thin plate attached to the spindle that protrudes into a doorknob notch which prevents rotation. That s because modern door hardware uses a hidden mechanism called a detent to fasten the doorknob that can only be released using a small screwdriver tip or the end of a paper clip depending on your style of hardware. Step 2 inspect the rod s surface and locate the groove where the set screw needs to be secured. Use whatever screwdriver or wrench is appropriate to tighten this screw and firm up the doorknob s grip on the spindle.
